Standard Imaging is First-Ever Manufacturer Recipient of Dane County Climate Award

Standard Imaging’s unwavering dedication to maintaining an energy efficient building was recognized by the Dane County Office of Energy and Climate Change. Presented with the 2022 Dane County 3 Star Climate Champion Award for Building Energy Use, they are the first-ever manufacturer recipient for this award.

“Standard Imaging is so proud to be recognized for our efforts as a climate champion with our facility’s carbon footprint being a fraction of our peers," said Eric DeWerd, President of Standard Imaging. "As the first manufacturer to be the recipient of this prestigious award, we hope to pave the way for other businesses to lead in this area too.”

The Climate Champions program by the Dane County Office of Energy and Climate Change recognizes local entities that are leading on climate action. Kathy Kuntz, Director of Dane County Office of Energy and Climate Change, visited Standard Imaging’s headquarters to present the award.

“We are delighted to recognize Standard Imaging as a 2022 Climate Champion in the Energy Use category,” said Kathy Kuntz, Director of the Dane County Office of Energy & Climate Change. “Standard Imaging’s long-term commitment to clean energy is certainly an inspiration to other local businesses.”

“We are excited to celebrate another cohort of Climate Champions,” said Dane County Executive Joe Parisi. “The leadership these organizations are taking to enhance their sustainability and meet our climate goals is admirable and an inspiration to others.”

The Standard Imaging building uses just a quarter of fossil fuel-based energy of a comparable facility according to the Dane County Office of Energy and Climate Change.

“Since the planning and construction of our headquarters in 2007, Standard Imaging has kept a commitment to environmental sustainability by being an early adopter of Solar energy production and a net zero carbon emission strategy," said Ed Neumueller, Co-Founder and CEO of Standard Imaging. "We have never consumed fossil fuels directly from our facility.”

Standard Imaging has continued to minimize their carbon footprint while increasing their sustainability efforts. By utilizing four 11.9 kW solar array trackers and a geothermal heating and system, zero emissions have been produced from their facility.

The combined production from the solar array trackers and their offsite solar panels provides enough clean energy to power approximately 27% of their operations and will offset about 200,000 pounds of carbon dioxide released into the air annually.

The geothermal HVAC system conditions the entire facility without having to ever burn fossil fuels. Due to this specialized construction, there has never been any CO2 emissions from the building since it was built. 100% of the air handling in the building is derived from the unique HVAC system. The heating and cooling are produced from liquid-filled pipes that take on the constant temperature of the earth and then channeled to a variety of heat pumps which utilize the specific temperature to heat or cool as needed.

Additionally, since 2009, the company has been Wisconsin Green Tier 1 certified participants, which recognizes companies that strive for superior environmental performance.
