Vienna, Austria, September 18, 2024- Standard Imaging and the IAEA formalized their partnership agreement under the Rays of Hope initiative as part of their efforts to address critical disparities in low- and middle-income countries’ access to life-saving cancer treatments.

"It's with great pride and gratitude that Standard Imaging joins the Rays of Hope initiative," said Eric DeWerd, President of Standard Imaging. "We are honored to play a role in this global effort and look forward to many years of collaboration in the fight against cancer. Together, we are building hope for a healthier future."

By combining the IAEA’s decades of leadership in cancer control with Standard Imaging’s innovative technology and expertise in radiation therapy, the partnership will continue paving the way for safer, more effective treatments for those in greatest need. Their shared commitment to improving quality assurance, education, and access to state-of-the-art equipment is expected to contribute to better cancer care for thousands, if not millions, of patients.

“Standard Imaging presents a promising opportunity to significantly enhance the quality and precision of radiation therapy treatments in LMICs that seek support through the IAEA’s Rays of Hope initiative, and will advance the objectives of the initiative,” said Hua Liu, Deputy Director General and Head of the IAEA’s Department of Technical Cooperation. “We are keen to start working with Standard Imaging to address the needs of the Member States that seek support under the initiative,” he added.

As part of this partnership, Standard Imaging will provide advanced dosimetry and quality assurance tools, improve access to calibration services, and enhance training in radiation therapy quality assurance for LMICs. These contributions will play a pivotal role in strengthening the capabilities of Rays of Hope Anchor Centers, benefiting hospitals and patients on a global scale.

DeWerd emphasized Standard Imaging’s commitment to advancing global healthcare through this initiative. "We are honored to support this important effort in making radiation therapy more accessible and safer for underserved communities. The road ahead will demand collaboration and dedication, but together we have the tools, the vision, and the passion to make a meaningful impact!"
